Help Joshua the 3-Year-Old Pom Mix, Get Lifesaving Heart Surgery ❤️🐾

Meet Joshua, a 3-year-old Pomeranian mix with a spirit as big as his ears. We rescued him from a shelter that couldn’t care for his heart condition. We believe he was surrendered after someone discovered his heart murmur.

But here’s the good news: His foster mom says he is absolutely the sweetest boy – playful, active, and thriving in foster care. And with one surgery, he can live a completely normal, healthy lifespan. 🙌

The Diagnosis 🩻
Joshua saw a specialist at MEDVET and had an echocardiogram, which confirmed Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) – a fetal blood vessel that didn’t close after birth. This causes his continuous heart murmur. While he has some early heart enlargement, he is not in heart failure yet. 🤞

Why time matters: Most dogs with PDA develop heart failure by 1 year of age. Joshua is already 3, so without treatment, we expect heart failure within the next couple of years. 😰

The Solution 🧑🔧
The surgery will fix him completely. After recovery, he’ll live a normal, active, healthy life. His initial consult at COVE is in about 1.5 weeks. Once they see him, we’ll have the final surgical quote – but current estimates are $5,800–$6,500 (includes overnight hospitalization).
