Dolly

Dolly’s story began when she, her two siblings and their mother were surrendered to a shelter. The puppies were only four weeks old, and the shelter wasn’t equipped to care for puppies that young. Sophia’s Grace Foundation stepped in, and the little family went into the loving foster care of Mandi.

Meanwhile, Dolly’s future mom had been hoping to rescue a dog and was following several rescue organizations. The moment she saw a photograph of Dolly—and those unforgettable little eyebrows—she fell in love and immediately submitted an adoption application.

Mandi called later that same night with the wonderful news: she had been chosen to be Dolly’s human!

Sophia’s Grace Foundation arranged Dolly’s transportation to Ohio. Her new mom and grandmother drove two hours to pick her up and bring her home to Pennsylvania. Dolly slept in her mom’s lap during the ride, already settling into the arms of the person who would love her forever.

As soon as they arrived home and Dolly’s paws touched the grass, she rolled onto her back and asked for belly rubs. They remain one of her favorite things to this day.

Her original name was Aurora, but her mom knew this sweet little girl needed to be named after her favorite person—the one and only Dolly Parton. The name couldn’t be more fitting. Dolly is loving, remarkably smart and spreads joy everywhere she goes. One stranger even admired her beautiful fur and said he loved her “Coat of Many Colors”—the perfect compliment for a dog named Dolly!

She also has a mischievous side. Sometimes Dolly gently removes a sock right from her mom’s foot because she knows it will start their favorite game. Dolly hands over the sock, her mom hides it somewhere in the house, and the search begins. She keeps looking until she finds her prize!

Dolly’s story is a beautiful example of what can happen when a rescue, a foster family and an adopter work together to give a vulnerable puppy the life she deserves.
